Transportation and travel

It is inevitable that at some point you will have to transport your kitten, whether it's to the vet for a checkup or to a trusted friend before you go are on vacation. For this purpose, cat carriers are the safest and most comfortable way to transport your kitten.

To make loading and traveling easier, help your kitten get familiar with the carrier by using it as a place to store her toys or as a cozy place for her to nap.

Leaving your kitten at home when you travel

You should never leave your kitten alone for any extended length of time. If you're going away on vacation, or even just for the weekend, you need to arrange for care at home or plan ahead for a secure and safe place to board your pet.

A reputable boarding kennel will provide reliable care and attention in a pet-friendly environment. While all they'll ask of you is an up-to-date vaccination certificate, you need to make sure you have arranged for emergency care in your absence. Ask friends with pets or your veterinarian to recommend the best kennels in your area.

If you are fortunate enough to have friends or family who'll offer to look after your kitten while you're away, make sure they know what's involved before you agree. It is also helpful to take your kitten to their house for a few visits before you leave so your kitten gets used to her new temporary "family" and surroundings. And don’t forget to leave a supply of kitten food and precise feeding instructions.
