National Hairball Awareness Day is the last Friday in April

Every cat owner, at least once (usually in the middle of the night), has stepped into a pile of something that looks and feels like anything but hair and wondered, "Does she do this on purpose?!" No, she doesn't. In fact, hairballs are the number one health condition reported by 35% of cat-owning households.1,3 Is your household one of them? If so, Hill's honors and educates you on this National Hairball Awareness Day.

What are Hairballs?
The formation of hairballs is a common feline condition that is brought on by self-grooming and the associated ingestion of hair. The ingested hair can accumulate in your cat's throat or stomach, causing irritation. Cats with hairballs are often seen gagging, regurgitating or vomiting hair and mucus. All breeds are susceptible to hairballs, so all cat owners should know that controlling this issue is as easy as feeding their cats Science Diet® Hairball Control cat food.

"It's often an unsightly situation for cat owners, but not uncommon," said Dr. Debbie Davenport, a Hill's veterinarian. "Some 50-80% of cats produce hairballs as frequently as once a month. In most cases, hairballs are normal but unpleasant, but in a few cases, hairballs can be a symptom of something more serious happening in the cat's digestive system." If you suspect your cat has a serious problem with hairballs, you should consult your veterinarian.

The Solution
Hill's® Science Diet® Hairball Control formulas use natural vegetable fibers to help move hair safely and naturally through a cat's digestive system. They're also formulated to nourish your cat's skin and coat with essential nutrients, reducing unnecessary shedding. Unlike other "remedies", this food contains no drugs or messy lubricants that may interfere with normal digestion and nutrient absorption. Research shows that 80% of cat owners felt Hill's® Science Diet® Hairball Control formula met or exceeded their expectations for hairball control.2

Hill's® Science Diet® Hairball ControlHill's was the first company to introduce such a revolutionary product, and offers Hill's® Science Diet® Hairball Control in several varieties including Adult, Adult Light and Mature Adult. These formulations are clinically designed to control and reduce hairballs when fed on a daily basis. For cat owners who prefer to feed a canned food, Hairball Control is also available in Adult Seafood Entrée and Adult Chicken Entrée varieties. For owners of cats with an indoor lifestyle, natural fiber technology has also been integrated into the Science Diet® Indoor Cat line of products.
